World Bicycle Day Celebration (June 3, 2026)

On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, Nepal Cycle Society, in collaboration with various organizations, successfully organized a cycling rally titled “Cycling in Daily Commute” in Kathmandu.
The rally highlighted cycling as a sustainable solution for Kathmandu Valley’s growing challenges of air pollution, traffic congestion, and road safety. Daily cycling can improve public health, reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and contribute to economic savings while also promoting women’s empowerment through increased participation.
With nearly 70% of daily trips in Kathmandu being under 5 km, cycling is a practical and effective alternative that can significantly improve urban mobility and livability.
Nepal Cycle Society calls for a National Bicycle Vision 2030, along with supporting policies such as a National Bicycle Act, cycling promotion programs, and development of bicycle-friendly infrastructure across cities.
Around 700 cyclists participated in the rally, including a strong presence of women cyclists (about two-thirds of participants). The event was inaugurated by Hon. Ashish Gajurel, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Physical Infrastructure, with Hon. Members Khagendra Sunar, Indira Rana Magar, Arbind Shah, and Kamal Subedi attending as guests.
Similar cycling programs were also organized in Pokhara, Birtamode, Bhairahawa, Bara, and other cities across Nepal.
Nepal Cycle Society thanks all participants, supporters, and partners for making this event a success and kindly requests media coverage of this initiative promoting sustainable transport.

Let’s make cycling a daily habit for a healthier and more livable Nepal.
